Happy Nail Polish Day! - June 1

Who knew this day existed?!?!  I sure didn't and apparently this is the first year.  Essie started it, doesn't matter, I am happy to celebrate with them.

I love nail polish.  I love the variety of colors and the way it completes an outfit.  I love the confidence it gives me of a polished, put together look. I never used to wear it as much as I do now. What changed was an amazing product that my Mom found as well as a cool new trick I discovered.    Now I do my nails in my sleep.  Literally!

It's not rocket science but if you stop and think about it, it's actually a genius idea.  My nails dry in my sleep.  I get ready for bed, grab my magazine or book and the polish and top coat I want to use.  I read a while ago you only need about 10 minutes between coats. It is actually true.  Years ago I always thought it was longer so doing my nails literally took over an hour if not more.  Who has that amount of time?  Not me!  Now I do a coat, read my magazine for 10-15 minutes, do the second coat, read then put my top coat on.  If I have time to do 2 layers of top coat then that is wonderful.  The trick is that after I apply the last layer of top coat, I turn out the lights and go to sleep.  I sleep on my side so my hands just flop off over the bed.  I am sleeping soon after and by the time I move in bed or go to roll over, they are dry.  Genius!  When I do my toes I do the 2 coats of color while I am reading.  Then the next morning after I get out of the shower I put my top coat on and it drys while I do my hair and make up.

My new favorite nail polish is Sally Hansen Miracle Gel.

If I am going to spend the time to paint them I don't want them chipping after only 2 days.  That was always very discouraging.  This product last over a week.  They claim 10 days and I have definitely had it on for 10 days looking wonderful, but I would say a week to be safe.  I hate chipping on my nails, or anyone's nails for that matter.  I try and take if off immediately when it starts to chip.  I have had this nail polish on while gardening without gloves and scrubbing the showers without gloves and it hasn't chipped.  This is a product I can stand behind.  I have also used the top coat on other brands and it definitely extends the life.  If you get nothing out of this article, go buy the Sally Hansen Top Coat.

I will pay more for product that works and lasts.  Thank you Sally Hansen!

Nail Inc Gel Effect gets rave reviews from a friend of mine.  This is the color she recommends too.  I haven't tried it yet...As much as my statement above says I don't mind paying more for somethign that works.. I can't find this cheaper than $15 and I am not ready to jump on that train.  But I keep checking for it to decrease.  I'll let you know if I do.

    1. No light needed. I love it and comes off with regular nail polish. It's the best top coat you will own.

  2. No wonder my polish smudges the way it does after I paint my nails - I didn't know you were supposed to wait 10 mins before putting on another coat!

January Book Review

Welcome back to our monthly book review. This is the post where I share the books I read last month, rate them and share the jacket summary.  I hope you are able to find a few new books to add to your reading list! However.... This month was a struggle for me.  On average I read about 4-5 books a month.  If I don't like a book, or can't get into it, I stop reading.  Life is too short to read a book that doesn't hold my interest.  That happened more this month than ANY month, in the last 3 years where I have been tracking what I read.  I must have started and stopped 4 books. I just couldn't not get past the first couple chapters.  It was a struggle for sure.   This month, I read a series on Kindle Unlimited that I will only count as 1 book.   I'll explain more below.   The Christmas Retreat By Grace Meyers   My rating: 4/5 My comments:  This was a 6 book series.  The books were about 70 pages long....

December Book Review.... AND full list from 2023

Welcome to my favorite post of the month - BOOK REVIEW!   Going forward this post will be the first Wednesday of the month.  This month was different because of the word of the year post last week.  In December I technically read 5 books.  However, the books in the Asheville series were short and quick reads.  Honestly, they could have been combined to make one long book.  So, without any more chatter, below are the books I read in December. Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews My Rating: 3.5 / 5 Back of book: The night before her wedding, in the middle of an oh-so-smart rehearsal dinner, interior decorator Keeley Murdock chances upon her fiancĂ© and maid of honor in flaming flagrante delicto. Keeley throws the hissy fit to end all hissy fits, storms out and earns herself instant notoriety in her tiny hometown of Madison, GA. The next day, though, she has to deal not only with a broken engagement but also with her business being shut out by folks in a t...
