March Book Review

I read a lot this month. We had a couple quiet weekends, and I took advantage of them by reading.  There were a few books I started and couldn't finish.  Life is too short to read a book you don't like.  But below are the ones I did finish.  I hope you find a few ones to add to your list.

Temptations by Sherryl Woods

My rating:  4.5/5

I loved it! Slight (very slight if I could finish the book) suspense in the book.  I thought it was a great story and I didn't want it to end.

Back of book:  Callie Smith's quest for success far from her Iowa roots has caused a rift with her hardworking family. And with neither her Wall Street career nor her marriage going as planned, she starts to question the choices she's made.

But when charismatic network president Jason Kane pursues her to save a failing soap opera, her life is soon full of more twists than a TV story line. Suddenly she gets to know a whole new side to her mother, and also has the opportunity to save a friend's life. Most unexpected of all, she leaves heartache behind and tunes in to the love of a lifetime.

Upside Down by Danielle Steel

My rating: 4/5

Like always -quick, easy, fun read.  I love reading fiction books about Hollywood, actors, singers, celebrities, etc.  This was that type of book, and it was very entertaining.

Back of book:  Oscar-winning actress Ardith Law is a Hollywood icon. Radiant at sixty-two, she is the epitome of glamour and a highly respected artist. But her success has come at a price: She has a strained relationship with her daughter, Morgan, who at thirty-eight still blames Ardith for putting her career before being a mother. Morgan is a successful plastic surgeon in New York City—and the distance from Ardith’s Bel Air mansion is not lost on either of them.

Ardith became a single mother when Morgan was seven, after her unfaithful husband died in a helicopter accident. In recent years, she has found amiable companionship with fellow actor Bill West. But Ardith’s comfortable world is turned upside down when she hires a temporary personal assistant, Josh Gray, while Bill is away filming in London. Josh’s rough-around-the-edges persona is the opposite of what Ardith is used to, but an unexpected tragedy brings them closer, stirring up conflicting feelings in her for this younger man.

In New York, Morgan is swept off her feet by world-renowned TV anchorman Ben Ryan. Though more than two decades her senior, Ben is handsome, charismatic, and just as smitten as Morgan. But when a blackmail scheme puts his career—and their relationship—on the line, Morgan doesn’t know where to turn. Perhaps . . . to her mother? As each woman navigates an unconventional romance, they cautiously approach each other on new terms and attempt to put aside their past for a new future.

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

My rating 4.5/5

LOVED IT!  Couldn't put it down, read it in 48 hours.  When I started this, I didn't realize it was a 3 book series.  The first was my favorite.

Back of book:  At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her—and she’s forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover

My rating 3/5

R rated.. quick and not necessary book.

Back of book:  When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.
Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?
Maybe.
Maybe not.

Maybe Now by Colleen Hoover

My rating: 3/5

This is the third book in the series.  I am glad I read it to see how the characters wrapped up, but it seemed like the author was getting bored.  She is an excellent writer and I think she took the easy way out on this ending.  If it had a different ending, with more drama and emotion, I would have enjoyed it more.

Back of book:  What is more important? Friendship, loyalty, or love?

Ridge and Sydney are thrilled to finally be together guilt-free. But as the two of them navigate this freedom, Warren and Bridgette’s relationship is as tumultuous as ever, and Maggie grapples with her illness.

When she comes across an old list of things she wanted to do “maybe one of these days,” Maggie decides to live life to the fullest and accomplish these dreams. Maggie keeps Ridge updated on her adventures, but he can’t help but worry, even as Sydney grows more and more suspicious about their friendship. But if she’s going to move past this jealousy, she’ll need to reconcile how she and Ridge came together with the fact that Maggie will always be in their lives somehow…or end up walking away from the man she loves so much.

The Guest List by Fern Michaels

My rating: 4/5

This was recommended to me by a new friend that doesn't know my requirements on a book.  [Love story, no suspense, no death (except for natural causes), light and easy.]  This book had suspense and death, but I survived.  I shocked myself that I didn't stop reading.  I really loved this book and also read it in about 48 hours.

Back of book: Against all odds, Abby Mitchell has turned her life around. But in her crowning moment of celebration, dark clouds from the past threaten to undo everything she’s worked so hard for…

For the first time ever, Abby Mitchell feels that the world is her oyster. Her first book has found a publisher, a daring new surgery is on the horizon, and there’s a new man in her life, a man who sees beyond any flaws…into her heart.

Best of all, though, is that Abby has been reunited with her sister Mallory. Separated as girls after their parents died in a double tragedy, Abby always dreamed that, one day, they would be together again.

But while the two loving sisters make up for lost time, danger hides in the shadows. Now, Abby and Mallory have planned a sumptuous party—unaware that their gathering will include an uninvited guest who will do anything to keep the past hidden…

Yours Truly  By Abby Jimenez

My rating: 4/5

I needed a light read after the last book (death and suspense - not my normal style).  This was a cute story and I loved that the guy had anxiety.  This topic isn't talked about frequently. I really enjoyed that aspect of the story and the awareness they brought to it.

Back of book:  Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.

The Chocolate Shop on Amelia Island (Seven Sisters Book 5)  By Hope Holloway

My Rating: 4/5

I love this series.  Hope Holloway is an excellent author and I have loved everything she has written.  Nice, easy, family drama type stories.  Nothing too series and but great characters and fun story.  I think she only writes for Amazon but if you have Kindle Unlimited her books are included. This series does build on itself so I would recommend starting at book 1.

Back of book:  Sadie Wingate has been keeping secrets...from her family and from her brand new husband. But once the truth is revealed, her whole world melts like a truffle in the sunshine. Can Sadie finally settle for a sweet life on Amelia Island…or will stability send her searching for the next adventure?

Raina nears her delivery date and signs the papers ending her marriage, but there’s one thing missing in her life. Despite being the fixer in her family, the only solution to her heart’s dilemma seems all wrong for this newly-divorced mother of infant twins. But how can she say no?

Madeline's one and only love reappears, and this enigmatic man turns her well-ordered life upside down, while Susannah orchestrates major changes on Wingate Way.

When the winds of change blow over the candy store on Amelia Island, the Wingate women learn over and over again that the bond between the seven sisters is as strong as steel, as soothing as a seaside breeze, and as lasting as their family legacy.

Happy Nail Polish Day! - June 1

Who knew this day existed?!?!  I sure didn't and apparently this is the first year.  Essie started it, doesn't matter, I am happy to celebrate with them. I love nail polish.  I love the variety of colors and the way it completes an outfit.  I love the confidence it gives me of a polished, put together look. I never used to wear it as much as I do now. What changed was an amazing product that my Mom found as well as a cool new trick I discovered.    Now I do my nails in my sleep.  Literally! It's not rocket science but if you stop and think about it, it's actually a genius idea.  My nails dry in my sleep.  I get ready for bed, grab my magazine or book and the polish and top coat I want to use.  I read a while ago you only need about 10 minutes between coats. It is actually true.  Years ago I always thought it was longer so doing my nails literally took over an hour if not more.  Who has that amount of time? ...

What's Up Wednesday - 11/29/2023

In my quest to blog more frequently, I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer on the last Wednesday of the month.  Make sure you check out their blogs as well. I have been reading both of them for years and they are 2 of my favorites.  I love reading blogs and to me it's an escape from reality.  It's like talking to a girlfriend and taking a sneak peek into their lives, closet and home.   I have always wanted to blog.  I typically wrote a post every 6 months so right now I am pretty horrible, and no one reads.  But, in 2024 my goal is consistency.  Stay tuned, maybe someday you will be saying my blog is your favorite.  That would be music to my ears! Here is what we have been up to lately. 1.  Thanksgiving  I sat on the couch at my brother and sister in laws after a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.  It came to me, if you host or cook Thanksgiving, you are truly an angel.  You welcome people into your homes, cook, entertain and ...
