What's Up Wednesday - 1/31/2024

Happy last day of January!  This seemed like the longest, darkest, coldest month.  I don't think Rochester experienced more than 5 days of sun the entire month. BRUTAL!  Here is to hoping February is much better!

Like last month, I am linking up with 2 of my favorite bloggers, Sheaffer and Shay

1.  What have we been up to?

SPORTS!

We are doing travel baseball and travel soccer this year.  It's going to be a crazy spring and summer. This weekend we had our first soccer tournament. The club Derek plays for hosted it.  The boys played all day Saturday and the girls on Sunday.  The outcome of his 3 games wasn't what we wanted; but the boys have come along way.  Derek is very competitive, and he was getting very frustrated.  It was a good lesson in teamwork and being able to move on from experiences.  Always a teaching moment!

We also enjoyed Reading With The Amerks (AHL local hockey team) at the library.  They put this event on every year and it's wonderful.  The player reads a hockey related story, brings all the "gear" for a kiddo to try on, signed autographs, free kids' tickets to a game, and goodie bags!  I honestly thought the kids wouldn't want to go this year, but they were shocked that I would even think that they WOULDN'T want to.  So, off we went! I am so glad we did.

2.  What am I dreading?

More winter and planning summer camp schedules for the summer.... daunting task

3. What am I looking forward to?

Cruise that we have coming up!  Warm weather, wonderful food, entertainment and sunshine!  I can't wait!

4. What am I working on?

This weekend I need to focus on the yearbook for my daughter's school.  I can't get started and I know once I do, I will be fine... it is just that first step... log in.

Also, writing performance reviews for work. I have 24 to write and it is a daunting task. I made it into a game. I listed out how many I have to write each week to complete them all a week before they are do.  So far, I am "winning" at my imaginary game, and I am ahead of schedule.

Short and sweet this month!

Have a great week!  Don't forget to stop back on Monday for an inspirational quote to kick off the week!

Happy New Year! I hope you are starting the new year rejuvenated from the holidays!  I am so glad you are here and joining me on this corner of the internet.  Welcome! How I want to shape decisions and what I want to accomplish.   This year I chose....... March Book Review

I read a lot this month. We had a couple quiet weekends, and I took advantage of them by reading.  There were a few books I started and couldn't finish.  Life is too short to read a book you don't like.  But below are the ones I did finish.  I hope you find a few ones to add to your list. Temptations by Sherryl Woods My rating:  4.5/5  I loved it! Slight (very slight if I could finish the book) suspense in the book.  I thought it was a great story and I didn't want it to end. Back of book:   Callie Smith's quest for success far from her Iowa roots has caused a rift with her hardworking family. And with neither her Wall Street career nor her marriage going as planned, she starts to question the choices she's made. But when charismatic network president Jason Kane pursues her to save a failing soap opera, her life is soon full of more twists than a TV story line. Suddenly she gets to know a whole new side to her mother, and also has the opport...

December Book Review.... AND full list from 2023

Welcome to my favorite post of the month - BOOK REVIEW!   Going forward this post will be the first Wednesday of the month.  This month was different because of the word of the year post last week.  In December I technically read 5 books.  However, the books in the Asheville series were short and quick reads.  Honestly, they could have been combined to make one long book.  So, without any more chatter, below are the books I read in December. Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews My Rating: 3.5 / 5 Back of book: The night before her wedding, in the middle of an oh-so-smart rehearsal dinner, interior decorator Keeley Murdock chances upon her fiancĂ© and maid of honor in flaming flagrante delicto. Keeley throws the hissy fit to end all hissy fits, storms out and earns herself instant notoriety in her tiny hometown of Madison, GA. The next day, though, she has to deal not only with a broken engagement but also with her business being shut out by folks in a t...
