Let's Look - January - Closet

 Let's Look - January

I am linking up with Shay and Erika for January's Let's Look - How We Clean Our Closets.  If you are just joining from the link party, WELCOME!  I am so glad you are here.  I am starting out blogging after being an avid reader for years!  I'll be talking about motherhood, business, tips/tricks, life and books.  I post on Monday's and Wednesdays.  Stop back next Monday for an inspirational quote to get your week started right.

My closet is not Insta-worthy or Pinterst-worthy at all.  It's just an everyday closet, and honestly, I didn't clean it.  I definitely could have straightened it out more, but this is real life.  So why am I going on the internet to share my closet.... because I have a few tips that work for us that may work for you as well.

Here it is... she is small but mighty!  We use every single space in here.  Now I wish it didn't have the wire shelves, but I don't hate them enough to pull them out and add something else. I love all the hanger space.  What you can't see in this picture, is that there is double hanger space on the right-hand side once you step in.  You can see more in a picture below. We also use the bottom hanger as a shelf. I have large bags/totes, books and Christmas presents there!

Closet tips:

1.  Motion Light

Recently my husband added a motion light in the closet.  He added this because "apparently" I forget to turn the light off.  It's a lie, and he does it as well, I just don't mention it to him.  Regardless, over Christmas break he ordered a motion light and honestly, it's pretty cool.  It did take some getting used to since you don't have to flip the switch when you enter or leave anymore.  I think it's definitely a neat feature in the closet.

2.  Display kids art

Pictures in your closet??  Why not!  When my kids were in daycare, they made all kind of pictures. Our daycare was great about laminating the "special ones" with photos or for Mothers/Fathers Day.  I don't save much, but I saved most of these.  I used sticky tack and I have them in the closet!  I love seeing them in there and so do the kids.

3.  Bag for donations

In the corner of the closet, I have a garbage bag that we use for donations. When its full, we donate.  By having the bag in there already, it makes it nice and easy to drop something that doesn't fit or you don't like in there. Nice and neat!

4.  Laundry baskets

I keep a laundry basket tucket in so that it's not in our bedroom.

5.  Maximizing space

This closet if packet but organized. Everything has a place.  It could always be neater.... but..oh well.  I also use an over the door shoe rack for out of season shoes or just "not frequently used" shoes.  No use cluttering the mud room with shoes I wear for special occasions or once in a while.

In order to really maximize space, I need to use the top shelf.  Well, I can't reach it. I have a step stool in there at all times.  This way I can always reach and its less chance of me throwing something on the top shelf to make it messy.

Writing this makes me want to purge my clothes and reorganize, maybe next weekend.

What tips do you have from your closet organization?

See you back here on Monday! Have a great weekend.

March Book Review

I read a lot this month. We had a couple quiet weekends, and I took advantage of them by reading.  There were a few books I started and couldn't finish.  Life is too short to read a book you don't like.  But below are the ones I did finish.  I hope you find a few ones to add to your list. Temptations by Sherryl Woods My rating:  4.5/5  I loved it! Slight (very slight if I could finish the book) suspense in the book.  I thought it was a great story and I didn't want it to end. Back of book:   Callie Smith's quest for success far from her Iowa roots has caused a rift with her hardworking family. And with neither her Wall Street career nor her marriage going as planned, she starts to question the choices she's made. But when charismatic network president Jason Kane pursues her to save a failing soap opera, her life is soon full of more twists than a TV story line. Suddenly she gets to know a whole new side to her mother, and also has the opport...

MONEY BACK FROM TAXES? HERE IS A SURE WAY TO GROW IT

April 15th is right around the corner; did you file your taxes yet?   The goal should always be to break even, but it's always nice to receive a return.  Want to make the return you receive grow even more..... invest in a high yield savings account !  We were first introduced to this concept about 9 months ago and didn't do it.  The person that told us about it was incredibly happy with the results they were getting.  It took convincing to get my husband on board, but when he did, he was sold.  Sometimes he has to be "sold" on an idea, so I had to do some research.  Below are the articles and facts I learned/read in the process. [Note: I am not a financial advisor, just someone that loves money.] WHAT IS A HIGH YIELD SAVINGS ACCOUNT? Savings account with higher interest then a traditional savings account.  Sometimes as much as 10x's higher!  It is often found at credit unions or traditional banks.  Traditional savings accounts typic...

January Book Review

Welcome back to our monthly book review. This is the post where I share the books I read last month, rate them and share the jacket summary.  I hope you are able to find a few new books to add to your reading list! However.... This month was a struggle for me.  On average I read about 4-5 books a month.  If I don't like a book, or can't get into it, I stop reading.  Life is too short to read a book that doesn't hold my interest.  That happened more this month than ANY month, in the last 3 years where I have been tracking what I read.  I must have started and stopped 4 books. I just couldn't not get past the first couple chapters.  It was a struggle for sure.   This month, I read a series on Kindle Unlimited that I will only count as 1 book.   I'll explain more below.   The Christmas Retreat By Grace Meyers   My rating: 4/5 My comments:  This was a 6 book series.  The books were about 70 pages long....
