Brain Dump Friday

As you can see, I am not the best blogger -I am not consistent.  That is ok. I am going to write when I can and when the mood strikes me.   I want to improve but it is finding the drive.  I have the time at night to write but when I sit down, I want to hang out with the kids or read a book.  Reading a good book will always be my choice over writing.  Maybe someday soon that will chance, not yet!

So what has been happening lately in our world?

1.  Baseball.baseball.baseball.  :)  Our season has finally come to a close.  We have the end of year party in 2 weeks and then try outs the next day.  We had a great season.  The kids played so well in the regular season (tournaments were not our strength this year).  We all made new friends and Derek greatly improved at batting.  (Lesson of the year, bribing still works as a parenting technique.  I bribed him with "football guys" which are little football characters that are an inch high that he gets at the grocery store. It worked and he greatly improved and worked through his fear of batting).  Apparently, he only needed a little motivation.

2,  My garden is doing so well this summer.  It has been really hot here with no rain.  Despite the heat and me not always watering, they are doing great.  I used creeping Jenny in my front pots this year for the first time and I am SO happy with them!  I will definitely be adding them next year to the back as well.  The only thing that survives on my back deck is in the big pots.  Anything else I put out there dies.  I get straight sun the entire time and I think the size of these pots keeps the water longer.  I am done throwing out plants and having my heart broken every year.

Speaking of flowers - when we were in Ohio for a baseball tournament, I snapped some pictures of the gorgeous flower displays in downtown Cleveland and at Cedar Point.

3.  One of my Amazon Prime purchases during Prime Day was a gel manicure kit.  There are so many out there and I chose the brand Gellen.  I have a few friends that do at home gel manicures and they have been raving about them.  None of my friends use the brand Gellen and I purchased this starter kit strictly due to price and the neutral colors.  I like pinks, reds and everything in between those colors.  I don't tend to go wild colors like blues and greens.  I didn't want a kit that had colors I wouldn't use.  That happens when you buy a kit and don't purchase individual colors but I wanted to make sure that I would use the majority of colors.  I am on day 5 of my manicure and I am so happy.  I absolutely love the color and how they turned out.  I did watch a You Tube video before I did them on tips and tricks.  If you have a steady hand and enjoy painting your nails, give it a try.

4.  I love quotes and here is one I found today.  Enjoy your day and hopefully I'll be back next week!

January Book Review

Welcome back to our monthly book review. This is the post where I share the books I read last month, rate them and share the jacket summary.  I hope you are able to find a few new books to add to your reading list! However.... This month was a struggle for me.  On average I read about 4-5 books a month.  If I don't like a book, or can't get into it, I stop reading.  Life is too short to read a book that doesn't hold my interest.  That happened more this month than ANY month, in the last 3 years where I have been tracking what I read.  I must have started and stopped 4 books. I just couldn't not get past the first couple chapters.  It was a struggle for sure.   This month, I read a series on Kindle Unlimited that I will only count as 1 book.   I'll explain more below.   The Christmas Retreat By Grace Meyers   My rating: 4/5 My comments:  This was a 6 book series.  The books were about 70 pages long....

December Book Review.... AND full list from 2023

Welcome to my favorite post of the month - BOOK REVIEW!   Going forward this post will be the first Wednesday of the month.  This month was different because of the word of the year post last week.  In December I technically read 5 books.  However, the books in the Asheville series were short and quick reads.  Honestly, they could have been combined to make one long book.  So, without any more chatter, below are the books I read in December. Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews My Rating: 3.5 / 5 Back of book: The night before her wedding, in the middle of an oh-so-smart rehearsal dinner, interior decorator Keeley Murdock chances upon her fiancĂ© and maid of honor in flaming flagrante delicto. Keeley throws the hissy fit to end all hissy fits, storms out and earns herself instant notoriety in her tiny hometown of Madison, GA. The next day, though, she has to deal not only with a broken engagement but also with her business being shut out by folks in a t...
